When I first listened to the chorus section of Frost*’s ‘Numbers’ (released in 2016 at the height of Brexit), I couldn’t quite believe it. The drive of the song was incredible.
I couldn’t help but raise my fists in the air — and put the song on repeat for the next three hours.
‘Numbers’ is, to my mind, a perfect song. The performances, the production quality … the urgency.
The lyrics are also wonderful, fitting the music perfectly, with a ‘painting pictures with words’ quality to them.
Here’s a sample:
Numbers, we’re numbers, Death is for the breathing, Life is for the leaving, Numbers, we’re numbers, Hidden in the meaning, Seeing is believing.
Frost* is a British prog-rock group consisting of John Mitchell (guitar / vocals), Jem Godfrey (synth / vocals), Nathan King (bass), Craig Blunder (drums) — each of them preternaturally talented musicians.
Other standout songs from the band include ‘Heartstrings’, ‘Black Light Machine’ and ‘Towerblock’.
The group — and this song — are so outstanding in fact, it’s a real shame they aren’t better known outside of prog-rock circles.
I recommend them wholeheartedly.
The only thing I don’t recommend? Don’t get behind the wheel when this song is playing.
You’re guaranteed to get a ticket.
Prog at last!! King Crimson Frame by Frame…esque. Great track, another rabbit-hole!
